Reserva de Biosfera Estación Biológica del Beni

The Reserva de Biosfera Estación Biológica del Beni is a protected area in the southwestern lowlands of the Beni Department in northern Bolivia, within the broader Llanos de Moxos ecoregion. Established in 1982, the reserve preserves a distinctive ecological pattern in which fragments and corridors of tropical forest appear as an archipelago of woodlands surrounded by seasonally flooded savannas, wetlands, and palm-dominated llanos. Its mosaic of upland terra firme forest, flooded forests, swamps, cyperaceous marshes, and shallow lagoons supports an exceptionally rich Neotropical fauna. Jaguar, harpy eagle, giant otter, giant anteater, black caiman, and river turtle all persist here alongside one of Bolivia's most important bat assemblages. The area also functions as a living landscape inhabited by Tsimane indigenous communities, giving the reserve a dual identity as both a biological station and a biosphere reserve where conservation, research, and indigenous land rights intersect.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
