Tusheti National Park

Tusheti National Park is a protected area in northeastern Georgia, established in 2003 as part of the country's expanded network of protected areas. The park occupies the Tusheti mountainous region, a remote and ecologically significant corner of the Caucasus where the boundaries of the park stretch along Georgia's border with Russia, neighboring Chechnya, Ingushetia, and Dagestan. The landscape is defined by two parallel river valleys—the Pirikiti and Gometsri Alazani—carved between dramatic ridgelines that form part of the Caucasus mountain system. Elevations within the park range from approximately 900 meters at the valley floors to over 4,400 meters at the towering peaks that mark the continental divide. The park forms part of the Caucasus mixed forests ecoregion and encompasses a remarkable diversity of habitats, from forested slopes to subalpine meadows and permanent glaciers. It was created with support from the Global Environment Facility and World Bank under the Georgia Protected Areas Development Project.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
