Changa Manga

Changa Manga is a man-made forest and wildlife reserve in the Punjab province of Pakistan, situated in the Kasur and Lahore districts roughly 74 kilometers west of Lahore. It was first planted in 1866 by British foresters and has long been described as one of the oldest hand-planted forests in the world, once holding a reputation as the largest artificial forest anywhere. The plantation is built on the flat alluvial Punjab plains and is dominated by native tree species such as sheesham and kikar, together with introduced mulberry, eucalyptus, and poplar. The reserve supports a broad community of plants and animals and is particularly notable for wildlife conservation work centered on the critically endangered white-rumped vulture. It also functions as a regional recreation destination, offering picnic facilities, a miniature railway, and boating on its small lake. Despite its historical importance and protected status, Changa Manga has faced severe and ongoing illegal deforestation, with large portions of its original extent lost over recent decades and a long-running effort now underway to restore its canopy and rebuild its boundaries.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
