Kodar National Park

Kodar National Park is a federally protected natural area in southern Siberia, situated in the Zabaykalsky Krai of Russia. It lies in the remote Kodar mountain range, roughly 500 kilometers northeast of Lake Baikal, and covers a vast area of mountain taiga and alpine terrain in the basins of the Vitim and Chara rivers. The park was established on February 8, 2018, making it one of the more recent additions to Russia's network of national parks. Its creation was specifically aimed at preserving the unique natural complex of mountain taiga forests and protecting the habitats of several rare animal species that find refuge in this isolated corner of eastern Siberia. Kodar is notable for its wild, largely untouched character. With a sharply continental, subarctic climate, rugged Kodar ridge landscapes, and fauna that remains incompletely surveyed, the park stands as a stronghold for specialized northern ecosystems and serves as a key conservation area for rare local species such as the Kodar snow sheep.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
