Krasnoyarsk Stolby National Park

Krasnoyarsk Stolby National Park is a large protected natural area on the northwestern spurs of the Eastern Sayan Mountains, right on the doorstep of the city of Krasnoyarsk in central Siberia. The park covers tens of thousands of hectares of fir-dominated middle-mountain taiga, shaped by rivers that flow westward toward the Yenisei, and it is best known for its dramatic syenite rock outcrops that rise above the forest in isolated towers, walls, and sculpted forms. These towering natural rock formations are the defining attraction of the park and the foundation of a unique outdoor culture known as stolbism, in which local climbers have been exploring and naming the rocks for well over a century. The park includes recreational zones accessible to the public as well as large strictly protected core areas, and it is internationally recognized as an IUCN Category II protected landscape. Beyond its rocks, the park protects a rich middle-mountain ecosystem of dark coniferous taiga, river valleys, and forest-steppe interfaces that supports diverse mammals, birds, and plants, including several rare species recorded in Russian and regional Red Books. Created as a protected area in 1925 by the local community around Krasnoyarsk and converted into a national park in 2019, it remains one of the most significant natural landmarks in Siberian Russia.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
