Măcin Mountains

The Măcin Mountains represent one of Romania's oldest and most geologically significant mountain ranges, located in Tulcea County within the Northern Dobruja Massif. Despite appearing as low hills when viewed from the Danube River, this range rises dramatically from the surrounding lowland and constitutes a true mountainous region with peaks reaching 467 meters at Țuțuiatu. The mountains formed during the Carboniferous and Permian periods of the Paleozoic era through the Hercynian orogeny, making them among the oldest geological structures in Romania. The predominant granite bedrock has been sculpted by erosion into steep slopes and ruin-like formations that give the landscape its distinctive character. The range is divided into two main ridges: Culmea Măcinului to the south and Culmea Pricopanului to the north, separated by the Greci depression.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
