Nagarahole National Park

Nagarahole National Park is a prominent national park and tiger reserve located in the Kodagu and Mysore districts of Karnataka, India. Situated in the foothills of the Western Ghats, the park spans approximately 848 square kilometers of diverse terrain including valleys, hills, streams, and the scenic Kabini reservoir. The park was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1955, upgraded to national park status in 1983, and declared India's 37th tiger reserve in 2003. It forms part of the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is contiguous with Bandipur National Park to the southeast. The park is renowned for its healthy populations of Bengal tigers, Indian elephants, and gaur, as well as its rich dry deciduous and moist deciduous forest ecosystems. The Western Ghats Nilgiri Sub-Cluster, which includes all of Nagarahole, is under consideration for UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
