Nizhnyaya Kama National Park

Nizhnyaya Kama National Park is a protected natural area in the Republic of Tatarstan, in the Volga federal district of European Russia. It occupies a section of the lower Kama River valley in the northeast of the republic, spanning the Elabuga and Tukaevsky districts near the cities of Yelabuga and Naberezhnye Chelny. Established in 1991, the park was created to conserve the mosaic of broadleaf and mixed forests, floodplain meadows, wetlands, and riverine habitats that characterize this transitional landscape. The park's ecological importance comes from its position at the meeting point of three natural-climatic subzones: mixed broadleaf-coniferous forests, pure broadleaf forests, and meadow steppe. This convergence produces a wide variety of habitats and plant communities within a relatively compact area. The Kama and its tributaries, including the Toyma, Kriusha, Tanayka, and Shilna, shape both the landscape and the seasonal character of the park. Although it lies within a region that also supports oil extraction, the park retains a significant role as a refuge for mammals, birds, amphibians, and fish associated with the forest and river environments of the Middle Volga region. Its combination of river floodplains, upland forests, and aquatic habitats gives it a distinctive character among Russian national parks.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
