Riserva Naturale Garzaia di Porta Chiossa

The Riserva Naturale Garzaia di Porta Chiossa is a small regional nature reserve in the province of Pavia, in the Po Plain of Lombardy, northern Italy. It protects roughly 80 hectares of lowland woodland, a notably rare habitat in this intensely cultivated region, and is recognised both as a Site of Community Importance under the European Natura 2000 network and as a Special Protection Area under the Birds Directive. The reserve takes its name from the surviving colonies of herons and other waterbirds that nest within its damp forests, and from one of the fortified gates of the medieval Visconti park that once extended across this stretch of the plain. Alongside the nearby Parco della Vernavola and the Garzaia della Carola, it forms part of the last wooded fragments of that historic landscape, making it both an ecological stronghold and a cultural landmark of the Pavese plain.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
