Bako National Park

Bako National Park is the oldest national park in Sarawak, Malaysia, established in 1957 and protecting a compact but ecologically rich landscape at the tip of the Muara Tebas peninsula. The park covers approximately 27 square kilometers where the Bako and Kuching Rivers meet the South China Sea. Millions of years of sandstone erosion have carved a dramatic coastline of steep cliffs, rocky headlands, white sandy bays, sea arches, and distinctive seastacks, creating one of Borneo's most visually striking coastal landscapes. Despite being one of the smallest national parks in Sarawak, Bako contains remarkable biodiversity, featuring seven complete ecosystem types within its boundaries. The park is accessible only by boat from the village of Kampung Bako and remains a popular day-trip destination from Kuching, though it offers camping and bungalow accommodations for those wishing to stay longer.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
