Bantimurung-Bulusaraung National Park is a 437-square-kilometer protected area in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, established in 2004. Located in Maros Regency approximately 50 kilometers north of Makassar, the park features dramatic limestone formations rising at near-vertical angles along roads stretching from Maros city through Bantimurung and into Pangkajene and Islands Regency. The karst region encompasses roughly 43,750 hectares containing 286 documented caves, including 33 prehistoric caves that hold significant archaeological value. The park occupies a biogeographically crucial position at the transition between Asian and Australian zoogeographic zones, resulting in a unique assemblage of endemic flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth.
