Boorganna Nature Reserve

Boorganna Nature Reserve is a small protected area on the Comboyne Plateau in New South Wales, Australia, located roughly 32 kilometres north of Taree and within reach of the small village of Comboyne. Established in 1904, it is the second oldest nature reserve in the state, managed today by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The reserve protects what remains of the extensive subtropical rainforest that once cloaked the plateau before widespread clearing between 1900 and 1925. Its forests include large rainforest trees such as rosewood, yellow carabeen and small leaf fig, alongside warm temperate, gully, dry and eucalyptus forest types shaped by elevation, soil and fire history. Although originally proposed for inclusion in the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage group, Boorganna was rejected because of its geographic isolation from other rainforest tracts. It is now valued as a refuge for rainforest wildlife, including a wide variety of birds, mammals, reptiles and invertebrates, and as a compact but ecologically rich example of eastern Australian plateau rainforest.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
