Ketelmeer & Vossemeer

Ketelmeer & Vossemeer is a Dutch Natura 2000 area that brings together two adjacent freshwater lakes in the central Netherlands: the Ketelmeer and the Vossemeer. Together they form a lowland lake landscape of roughly 38 square kilometres on the border between the provinces of Flevoland and Overijssel, near the towns of Kampen, Dronten and Ens. The lakes sit in a strategically important position between larger Dutch water bodies, bordering the IJsselmeer to the west, the Zwarte Meer to the northeast and the IJssel river floodplains to the east. Their open water, shallow margins and proximity to river inflows create conditions that attract large numbers of waterbirds, making the area one of the recognized Important Bird Areas in the country. Designated under the European Birds Directive, Ketelmeer & Vossemeer is managed as part of the Netherlands' Natura 2000 network. Beyond its birdlife significance, the area reflects how engineered polders and reclaimed land meet natural and semi-natural lake environments in the modern Dutch water landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
