Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park

Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park is a protected area in northern Colombia encompassing one of the world's most remarkable mountain ecosystems. The national park was established in 1964 as Colombia's second-oldest national park and was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1979. The protected area spans the departments of La Guajira, Magdalena, and Cesar, sheltering extraordinary biodiversity with more than 44 endemic species and serving as a critical water source for roughly 1.2 million people who depend on the rivers originating in the range.
