Homilsha Woods National Nature Park

Homilsha Woods National Nature Park is a protected area in northeastern Ukraine, covering approximately 14,300 hectares of established forests in the Donets River valley. The park is situated about 50 kilometers south of the city of Kharkiv in the Chuhuiv Raion of Kharkiv Oblast, within a transition zone between the East European forest steppe and the Pontic-Caspian steppe ecoregions. The landscape features hilly spurs of the Middle Russian Uplands rising up to 100 meters above the river on the right bank, while the left bank consists of the flat East European Plain. This forest-steppe ecosystem includes maple-ash-oak forests on the slopes, pine forests on sandy terraces, and a network of wet and dry meadows with numerous small lakes. The park represents one of the most significant protected forest areas in eastern Ukraine, with ancient oak stands dating back 200 to 300 years and some individuals reaching nearly 600 years in age.
