Iški Morost Nature Reserve

Iški Morost Nature Reserve is a strict protected wetland area in central Slovenia, located only a few kilometres southwest of Ljubljana within the broader Ljubljana Marsh (Ljubljansko barje). It covers around 65 hectares along the Iška River, a right-bank tributary of the Ljubljanica, and protects the largest coherent block of wet meadows remaining in this characteristic central Slovenian landscape. The reserve is classified at the international level as an IUCN Category Ia strict nature reserve, although at the national level it carries the more general designation of a nature reserve (Naravni rezervat). Its protection is closely tied to the corncrake (Crex crex), a bird of particular conservation concern across Europe, for which the site functions as one of the most important refuges in a marshland that otherwise shows weaker habitat condition. Iški Morost also serves as an illustrative landscape where visitors and farmers can experience bird-friendly meadow management through a short educational trail and observation station. It sits inside a wider Natura 2000 area that has been designated under both the EU Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive, giving it a strong formal position in European conservation infrastructure.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
