Kanha Tiger Reserve

Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of the premier tiger reserves of India and the largest national park in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Spanning approximately 940 square kilometers across the Mandla and Balaghat districts, the reserve represents a critical stronghold for Bengal tiger conservation and protects one of the finest examples of tropical dry deciduous forest in the Indian subcontinent. The park's landscape is characterized by rolling grasslands, dense sal forests, and bamboo-covered slopes that support a remarkable diversity of wildlife including Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, barasingha deer, gaur, and dholes. Established initially as a wildlife sanctuary in 1933 and designated as a national park in 1955, Kanha became a tiger reserve in 1973 as part of India's ambitious Project Tiger initiative, making it one of the earliest reserves to receive formal tiger protection status.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
