Mana Pools National Park

Mana Pools National Park is a 2,196-square-kilometre wildlife conservation area in northern Zimbabwe, forming part of the lower Zambezi region where the river floodplain transforms into a broad expanse of lakes following the rainy season. The park derives its name from the Shona word for four, referring to the four large permanent pools created by the meandering Zambezi River. These pools, together with 2,500 square kilometres of river frontage, islands, sandbanks, and flanking forests of mahogany, wild figs, ebonies, and baobabs, create one of the least developed and most ecologically significant wilderness areas in Southern Africa. The park was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 and designated a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 2013, recognizing its outstanding universal value as a pristine natural ecosystem.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
