Mountain of Lotus Pools and Dwarf Dipterocarp Forests in Northeast Thailand

Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park

Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park is a protected area spanning three provinces in northeastern Thailand: Amnat Charoen, Mukdahan, and Yasothon. The park covers approximately 231 square kilometers of terrain characterized by dwarf dry dipterocarp forest and rolling mountainous landscapes. Established in 1992 and administered by Thailand's Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the park derives its name from a remarkable geological feature: a 423-meter peak crowned with eleven stone pools that naturally contain colorful lotus flowers. Local legend holds that these lotus appeared spontaneously without any human planting, adding a layer of cultural mystery to the site. The park offers visitors a combination of natural beauty, geological curiosity, and historical significance, with a large cave that once served as a stronghold for the Communist Party of Thailand during the 1960s.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
