Crimean Nature Reserve

The Crimean Nature Reserve is a strict nature reserve located on the southern slopes of the Crimean Mountains along the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine. Established in its current form in 1991, the reserve encompasses approximately 44,175 hectares of mountain-forest and meadow steppe ecosystems, protecting some of the most biodiverse habitats on the peninsula. The reserve spans the main ridge of the Crimean Mountains, featuring dramatic topography with gentle northern slopes and steep southern faces that drop toward the Black Sea. Roman-Kosh, the highest mountain in Crimea at 1,545 meters, rises within the reserve's boundaries. The area is characterized by Jurassic-era geological formations including shales, sandstones, limestones, and conglomerates, which have eroded to create diverse soil types supporting varied vegetation zones. The reserve serves as a critical protected area for the Crimean Submediterranean forest complex, a small but ecologically significant band of territory that extends from the southern Crimean peninsula toward the northern Caucasus.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
