Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor National Park is a granite upland in southern Devon, South West England, protected since 1951 as one of Britain's original national parks. Covering 954 square kilometres, it represents the largest area of granite in Britain, with the landscape characterized by exposed granite hilltops known as tors that rise from expansive moorland, peat bogs, and blanket bogs. The highest points are High Willhays at 621 metres and Yes Tor at 619 metres, both in the northern moor. The park is managed by the Dartmoor National Park Authority, with land ownership shared among private landowners, the Duke of Cornwall, the Ministry of Defence, water companies, the National Trust, and the Forestry Commission. Dartmoor is distinguished by its extraordinary concentration of prehistoric remains, particularly from the late Neolithic and Bronze Age periods, making it one of the most archaeologically significant landscapes in the United Kingdom.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
