Islote Lobos National Park

Islote Lobos National Park is a protected natural area located on the Atlantic coast of Río Negro province in Argentine Patagonia, approximately 50 kilometers from the town of Sierra Grande and adjacent to Playas Doradas. The park encompasses a coastal strip roughly 20 kilometers long that includes a complex of six rocky promontories emerging from San Matías Gulf: Lobos, La Pastosa, Ortiz Norte, Ortiz Sur, Redondo, and de los Pájaros. These rocky formations, some of which are covered with sedimentary material, rise from the sea close to the shore and become connected to the mainland during low tide, exposing extensive rocky and sandy surfaces, tidal pools, and isolated rocks. The park represents a significant addition to Argentina's national park system, established in 2022 after decades of provincial protection, and serves to preserve the coastal and marine ecosystems of this relatively sparsely protected region of Patagonian coastline. The area's biodiversity, particularly its marine bird populations and coastal habitats, makes it an important ecological asset within the broader Patagonian environment.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
