Kepulauan Seribu National Park

Kepulauan Seribu National Park is a marine protected area spanning a chain of islands in the Java Sea, located approximately 45 kilometers north of Jakarta, Indonesia. Established in 1982 and officially designated by forestry decree in 2002, the park covers 107,489 hectares of combined land and sea, protecting a network of 342 reef platforms, of which 110 form islands larger than half an acre. This archipelago represents the only marine national park within Indonesia's Special Capital Region of Jakarta, making it uniquely accessible yet ecologically significant. The park safeguards critical coral reef ecosystems, mangrove forests, and serves as a nesting ground for endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles. Beyond its natural value, the islands carry centuries of colonial history, with sites like Onrust Island preserving Dutch East India Company fortifications, shipyards, and quarantine stations from the 17th through early 20th centuries.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
