Nam Phong National Park

Nam Phong National Park is a protected area in northeastern Thailand spanning Khon Kaen and Chaiyaphum provinces. Established in 2000, the park covers approximately 197 square kilometers of mountainous terrain divided into two separate sections. The park is named after the Nam Phong River, which is now largely submerged beneath the Ubol Ratana Dam reservoir that occupies part of the park's northern section. The landscape features the Phu Phan Kham mountain range in the north and the Phu Meng mountain range in the south, with several rivers including the Nam Phong, Chi, and Choen originating within the park boundaries. The park's primary forest type is deciduous dipterocarp woodland, accounting for about 80 percent of the area, with mixed deciduous forest and grassland making up the remainder. Nam Phong offers visitors panoramic viewpoints, rock formations, prehistoric cave paintings, and access to the reservoir, making it a notable destination within Thailand's northeastern park system.
