Rago National Park

Rago National Park is a protected wilderness area in Sørfold Municipality of Nordland county in northern Norway. Established on 22 January 1971, the park covers 171 square kilometers of mountainous terrain in one of Europe's most sparsely populated regions. The park lies east of European route E6, approximately 10 kilometers northeast of the village of Straumen, and shares a border with Sweden's Padjelanta National Park to the east. When combined with adjacent protected areas on the Swedish side, the contiguous protected landscape spans roughly 5,400 square kilometers, creating one of the largest continuous protected areas in Europe. The park is named after the Sami word Rákkok, which translates to mean a difficult and impassable mountain region, reflecting the rugged and challenging nature of the terrain.
