Sri Lankamalleswara Wildlife Sanctuary

Sri Lankamalleswara Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected habitat in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh, in southern India. The sanctuary covers a substantial area of dry, largely undulating country characterized by scrub forests, steep slopes, and deep gorges. It is internationally recognized as the only place in the world where the critically endangered Jerdon's courser is known to survive, a fact that defines the sanctuary's identity and conservation significance. The landscape is typical of the drier interior of the Eastern Ghats foothills, dominated by dry deciduous mixed thorn forest. Red Sanders, an endemic tree of considerable ecological and economic importance, is among the park's notable botanical species. Beyond its flagship bird, the sanctuary supports a broad community of mammals typical of central Indian scrub and dry forest, including leopard, sloth bear, several deer species, and smaller carnivores. Sri Lankamalleswara sits near the city of Kadapa and functions both as a refuge for rare wildlife and as a representative remnant of the dry forest ecosystems of the southern Eastern Ghats. Its global importance is anchored almost entirely in the rediscovery and ongoing survival of Jerdon's courser, making it a priority site for bird conservation in India.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
