Ancient Canaanite city and biblical archaeological site in Upper Galilee

Tel Hazor National Park

Tel Hazor National Park preserves the remains of ancient Hazor, one of the most important cities in the ancient Near East. Located in the Upper Galilee region of northern Israel, on the Korazim Plateau north of the Sea of Galilee, this archaeological tell represents the largest fortified city in the region during the Middle Bronze Age and Iron Age periods. The site spans approximately 80 hectares, featuring an upper mound of about 12 hectares and a lower city extending over 70 hectares. Hazor maintained extensive commercial ties throughout the Fertile Crescent, particularly in tin trade essential for bronze production. In biblical texts, Hazor is described as "the head of all those kingdoms" and served as the seat of King Jabin, a powerful Canaanite ruler mentioned in the Books of Joshua and Judges. The site was destroyed by Assyrian forces in 732 BCE and subsequently abandoned.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
