Chitral Gol National Park

Chitral Gol National Park is a protected mountain wilderness in the Lower Chitral District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, situated along the Chitral River at the western edge of the Hindu Kush range. Established in 1984, the park encompasses approximately 7,750 hectares of alpine terrain spanning elevations from 1,450 to 5,000 meters above sea level. The protected area is renowned for its population of markhor, an endangered wild goat species, as well as snow leopards and other significant Himalayan fauna. The park features three distinct valleys, glacial formations, and the historic Birmoghlasht area where the former Mehtar of Chitral maintained a summer fort. The landscape is characterized by steep mountain terrain, alpine meadows, and dense cedar forests, creating a dramatic setting for one of Pakistan's most ecologically significant protected areas.
