The park covers approximately 679 hectares of rolling hill terrain near Sylhet City, featuring evergreen forest that has regenerated through decades of plantation work by the Forest Department. Originally cleared during the British colonial era for tea cultivation, the area underwent extensive reforestation after 1950 with species including teak, garjan, bamboo, champa, agar, akashmoni, eucalyptus, and acacia mangium before achieving national park status.
