Uchhali Complex

Uchhali Complex is a wetland complex in Khushab District, Punjab, Pakistan, set within the Soon Valley of the Salt Range. It groups three shallow lakes, Khabikki Lake, Uchhali Lake, and Jahlar Lake, whose waters range from brackish to saline. Together the lakes form one of the most important inland wetland systems in central Pakistan and a key wintering ground for migratory waterbirds. The complex is internationally recognized for its conservation value and was designated a Ramsar site in 1996. Its surface area covers over 1,200 hectares of open water, reedbeds, and adjoining semi-arid terrain, making it a vital refuge where freshwater inflow meets the mineralized geology of the Salt Range. The site is especially significant for Pakistan's bird life, supporting breeding populations as well as winter visitors from Central Asia and the Palearctic. The combination of saline lakebeds, fringing marshes, and surrounding scrub creates a distinctive mosaic of habitats that draws species rarely seen elsewhere in the country.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
