Beijing Xishan National Forest Park

Beijing Xishan National Forest Park is a state-designated national forest park situated on the western edge of Beijing, in the small Western Hills (Xiao Xishan) range. The park lies just outside the West Fifth Ring Road, spanning portions of Haidian, Shijingshan, and Mentougou districts, and is widely regarded as the closest national-level forest park to the central city. The park protects primarily planted forest landscapes that developed from mid-twentieth-century afforestation efforts, with mixed stands of Chinese pine, oriental arborvitae, locust, and smoke tree giving the hills strong seasonal color. Beyond its ecological character, the park carries a deep historical and cultural layer, sitting amid landscapes long favored by imperial courts and surrounded by tombs, temples, and memorials tied to several centuries of Chinese history.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
