Located in the Mudurnu district of Bolu Province, the park sits between the branches of the Abant and Keremali mountain ranges, which form the second branch of the Western Black Sea mountain range parallel to the Black Sea coast. The area had been protected as a natural park since 1988 before achieving full national park status, reflecting its longstanding ecological significance within Turkey's protected areas network.
