Lake Gala National Park

Lake Gala National Park is a protected wetland area located in the Maritsa Delta of Edirne Province in the European part of Turkey. Established on March 5, 2005, the park encompasses two major lakes—Lake Pamuklu and Lake Küçük Gala—along with surrounding wetlands and forests covering approximately 6,090 hectares. The park lies within the İpsala and Enez districts, situated about 8 kilometers from the town of Enez and 23 kilometers from İpsala. The area was designated first as a nature reserve in 1991 before being elevated to national park status in 2005, primarily due to growing concerns about pollution from agricultural pesticides and fertilizers, as well as unsustainable fishing and bird poaching activities that threatened the ecosystem. Today, the park protects a valuable wetland complex within the broader Maritsa Delta, which itself is recognized as a Ramsar site of international importance.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
