Juan Crisóstomo Falcón National Park

Juan Crisóstomo Falcón National Park is a protected area in northern Venezuela, situated on the eastern flank of the Sierra de Falcón mountain range roughly half an hour from the colonial city of Santa Ana de Coro. The park covers around 20,000 hectares spanning several municipalities in Falcón State and protects a rich mosaic of karst mountains, mid- and low-elevation ranges, cloud forest, xerophytic woodland, and a dense network of caves, sinkholes, and underground water systems. Its defining feature is the dramatic limestone landscape sculpted by water over thousands of years, including deep sinkholes known locally as haitones, river-carved gorges, and an enormous subterranean lake known as the Fosa de San Luis, considered the largest underground lake in Venezuela. The park is also an essential water source for Falcón State, feeding the rivers that supply the cities of Coro and Punto Fijo, while offering habitat for endemic species such as the local Urupagua fruit and the campanero herrero bird.
