Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary

Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary is a small wetland protected area in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, in northern India. It centers on two neighboring oxbow lakes, Parvati Tal and Arga Tal, which together cover roughly 10.84 square kilometers and were left behind when an older course of the Saryu River shifted. The wetland lies within the Upper Gangetic Plains moist deciduous forests ecoregion and offers open water, reed-fringed margins, and surrounding woodland that together create a productive habitat for waterbirds. The sanctuary is best known for its avian life. It sustains about 35 resident species year-round and hosts winter migrants that travel across the Himalayas from Tibet, China, Europe, and Siberia, with some individuals flying more than 5,000 kilometers and crossing at very high altitudes. A wider checklist of roughly 150 bird species across 33 families has been documented at the site. Declared a bird sanctuary in 1990, Parvati Arga was notified as a Ramsar Wetland of international importance in 2019. It is administered by the Sohelwa Wildlife Division and is increasingly recognized as one of the significant freshwater wetland conservation areas in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
