Zavidovo National Park

Zavidovo National Park is a large protected natural area straddling the Moscow and Tver regions of European Russia, situated on the Upper Volga Lowland roughly 150 kilometers north of Moscow. The park covers a wide tract of low-lying mixed and coniferous forest laced with rivers, meadows, bogs, and lakes, including a stretch of the Moscow Sea reservoir. Within its borders lies the "Rus" presidential residence, which remains off-limits to the public. The park emerged from a long tradition of managed hunting grounds that were progressively expanded and reorganized during the Soviet era. Today it functions simultaneously as a national park, a scientific and experimental reserve, and the setting for a high-security state residence. Its landscape combines glacial plains, Moraine-based relief, and extensive wetlands that support a rich community of mammals, game birds, and waterfowl. Zavidovo's identity is unusual among Russian national parks because of its dual role as both a conservation area and a strategically significant government property. The mix of forests, rivers, and open water supports diverse wildlife, while the protected regime has helped preserve ecological continuity across a substantial block of the Upper Volga lowlands.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
