Bhawal National Park

Bhawal National Park is a protected natural area situated in the Gazipur district of Bangladesh, approximately 40 kilometers north of Dhaka city. Established initially in 1974 and officially declared under the Wildlife Act of 1974 in 1982, the park encompasses a total area of 5,022 hectares with a core protected zone of 940 hectares. The park represents one of Bangladesh's few remaining tracts of sal forest, a biologically significant ecosystem type on the Indian subcontinent. Once home to a diverse community of large mammals including tigers, leopards, elephants, and clouded leopards, the park has experienced significant ecological decline over the past half-century due to deforestation, human encroachment, and habitat fragmentation. Today, the park functions under IUCN Management Category IV as a habitat and species management area, while also carrying characteristics of a protected landscape. The park serves both conservation and recreational purposes, offering visitors an opportunity to experience what remains of Bangladesh's natural forest heritage.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
