Boreal forest and mire wilderness in Finnish Lakeland

Seitseminen National Park

Seitseminen National Park is a protected wilderness area in the Pirkanmaa region of western Finland, spanning the municipalities of Ikaalinen and Ylöjärvi. Established in 1982 and expanded in 1989, the park encompasses 45.5 square kilometres of typical boreal forest landscape characteristic of the Suomenselkä watershed region. The terrain features a diverse mix of upland coniferous forests dominated by Norway spruce and Scots pine, alongside extensive lowland peatlands, mires, and bog areas that cover more than half of the park's total area. The western section contains the Seitsemisharju ridge, a prominent north-south esker formation rising roughly 20 metres above the surrounding terrain. Seitseminen holds particular significance as one of Finland's most accessible old-growth forest areas, with the Multiharju primeval forest section containing trees approaching 400 years in age. The park received the European Diploma of Protected Areas in 1996, recognizing its ecological importance within the European conservation network.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
