Binnenveld

Binnenveld is the southern part of the Gelderse Vallei, a low-lying polder landscape in the central Netherlands lying between the towns of Wageningen, Bennekom, Ede, Veenendaal, and Rhenen. Bordered to the southwest by the wooded slopes of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Grebbeberg, the area spans the provinces of Gelderland and Utrecht and combines centuries-old meadowland with ecologically valuable wetland remnants. The heart of Binnenveld is a protected Natura 2000 site that safeguards one of the largest contiguous areas of blue grassland (blauwgrasland) in the Netherlands, along with a rare stream-valley quaking bog (trilveen) fed by base-rich seepage water. Beyond these strictly protected nature reserves, the wider Binnenveld forms an open agricultural landscape used primarily as meadowland and recognized as a meadow-bird area and quiet zone, giving it an important role for both conservation and low-key rural recreation. In recent years, parts of the surrounding farmland have been gradually transformed into new nature areas, including the Binnenveldse Hooilanden in Gelderland and the Achterbergse Hooilanden in Utrecht, linking the Natura 2000 core with larger networks of restored wet grassland and broad habitats within the Dutch National Ecological Network.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
