Kurjenrahka National Park

Kurjenrahka National Park is a protected wilderness area in Southwest Finland, established in 1998 as the first national park on the mainland of Varsinais-Suomi. The park encompasses approximately 29 square kilometres of boreal landscape, centered on expansive bogs that form the largest contiguous protected peatland in the region. The area contains some of the finest old-growth forests in Southwest Finland, including the renowned Pukkipalo area where certain forest stands have remained unmanaged for over 150 years. The park sits on a watershed between the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea, with terrain characterized by raised bogs interspersed with pine forests on mineral soil islands, several lakes, and dense networks of hiking trails.
