Skipsfjord Landscape Protection Area

Skipsfjord landskapsvernområde is a protected landscape reserve on the island of Vanna in Karlsøy municipality, Troms, in northern Norway. Established in December 1978, the area combines an outer-coast fjord, a wide inland valley, and surrounding mountain catchment, together covering roughly 54 square kilometers of land and around 11 square kilometers of sea. Its purpose is to preserve a representative outer-coast cultural landscape together with an undisturbed river system, geologically interesting features, and characteristic plant and animal life. The Skipsfjord valley is known for relatively flat terrain rich in cloudberry mires and as a traditional area for willow ptarmigan hunting, while the salmon-bearing Skipsfjordelva runs through its center. At the inner shore of the fjord lie three abandoned farms that have been used for recreation since they were last farmed in 1967, giving the reserve a layered cultural-natural character. A 2004 biological survey documented 72 bird species and 12 mammal species within the area, with several red-listed species among them, underlining the conservation value of this remote northern coastal landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
