Tanda Dam

Tanda Dam, also widely known as Tanda Lake, is a small dam and lakeside park in the Kohat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Built as an irrigation reservoir, it channels stored water through canals to a network of surrounding villages, including Jerma, Tappi, Baqizai, Dhoda, and Shahpur, making it an important agricultural resource for the region. Set among the low hills of Kohat, the lake doubles as a significant wetland habitat. In 1976 it was formally recognized as a Ramsar site, placing it under an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands. The reservoir attracts migratory waterbirds from Siberia and the Caspian region during the winter months, adding to its value as both a working landscape and a refuge for seasonal avian visitors. Beyond its hydrological and ecological roles, Tanda Lake also functions as a public recreation space and is associated with the broader Kohat landscape of reservoir-based visitation. Its combination of irrigation utility, recognized wetland status, and seasonal wildlife activity gives it a distinctive place among Pakistan's protected water bodies.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
