Vikerfjell Nature Reserve

Vikerfjell Nature Reserve is a protected natural area in Ringerike municipality, in the southern Norwegian inland region of Østlandet. Established in 2016, it covers approximately 80 square kilometers of forest, mountain, lakes, and mire, making it the physically largest nature reserve in Ringerike. The reserve encompasses the high-lying terrain of Strømsoddbygda in the Soknedalen valley and the Ådalsfjellene mountains in Ådal. It includes notable summits such as Vikerfjell, Gyranfisen, and Treknatten, along with parts of Urdevassfjellet. The landscape transitions from low mountain plateaus and bogs to forested valleys dominated by nutrient-poor bedrock and sparse vegetation. Vikerfjell is nationally significant for its large, intact stands of old coniferous forest, especially old pine forest largely untouched by modern forestry. The reserve also contains nationally important populations of rare and vulnerable lichen species associated with ancient trees and dead wood, giving it strong conservation value within Norway's network of protected areas.

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.
