Dachigam National Park

Its name translates to mean ten villages, reflecting the historical displacement of ten settlements that once inhabited the region before World War I. Originally established in 1910 under the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir to protect water catchments serving Srinagar, the area was formally designated a national park in 1981. The park features dramatic topographical diversity, from gently rolling grasslands to steep rocky cliffs, and contains significant watersheds including Marsar Lake and the Dagwan River, which supplies drinking water to the regional capital.
