Himalaya National Park

Himalaya National Park is a vast high-altitude protected area situated in the Astore District of Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan. Established in 2021 as part of the national Protected Areas Initiative, the park encompasses approximately 2,263 square kilometres of rugged mountain terrain, making it one of the most extensive contiguous high-altitude protected landscapes in the region. The park spans the upper Astore Valley, extending from near settlements such as Domail, Minimarg, and Rama northward toward the Deosai Plateau and eastward into the western Himalayan range. Its dramatic landscape features steep valleys, glaciers, alpine meadows, and coniferous forests, with elevations ranging from around 2,800 to 5,800 meters above sea level. The park was created to conserve critical high-mountain ecosystems and protect threatened species including the Himalayan brown bear, snow leopard, markhor, and musk deer, forming an important ecological corridor that connects several of Pakistan's existing protected areas.
