Rudrasagar Lake

Rudrasagar Lake is a freshwater wetland located near Melaghar in the Sipahijala district of Tripura, in northeastern India. Known locally as Twijilikma in the Kok Borok language, the lake sits about 52 kilometers from the state capital and is fed by perennial streams that deposit silt into its basin over time, giving the lake its characteristically rich sediment bottom. The lake has formally recognized importance on both national and international scales. It was designated as one of India's Wetlands of National Importance for conservation and sustainable use, and in 2005 it was declared a Ramsar Wetland of international importance for its biodiversity and socioeconomic value. Rudrasagar also serves as an Important Bird Area, attracting large numbers of winter waterfowl, including rare and threatened species. A striking cultural feature of Rudrasagar is Neermahal, the Water Palace, built on the northeastern edge of the lake in the 1930s by the then ruling king of Tripura. The palace combines the lake's natural setting with royal heritage, making Rudrasagar both an ecological site of consequence and a regionally significant cultural landmark.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
