Nanga Parbat National Park

Nanga Parbat National Park is a recently established protected area in the remote Diamer and Astore districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Created in 2021, the park spans approximately 178,561 hectares of dramatic Himalayan terrain, encompassing some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the Karakoram range. The park is named for Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain in the world at 8,126 meters, which dominates the landscape and has long drawn mountaineers from around the globe. The park protects a remarkable altitudinal gradient from forested valleys through alpine meadows to permanent snow and rock. This diversity of habitats supports a rich array of wildlife including several endangered and regionally significant species such as the Himalayan brown bear, Kashmir musk deer, and Markhor.
