Tràm Chim National Park

Tràm Chim National Park is a protected wetland area situated in the Plain of Reeds, a vast lowland region within the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam. The park occupies approximately 7,588 hectares in Tam Nông District, Đồng Tháp Province, and represents one of the most significant ecological restoration success stories in Southeast Asia. Originally a seasonal wetland that experienced flooding for three to six months each year, the area suffered severe environmental degradation during the Vietnam War when it was drained and burned as part of strategic military operations. The park was established in 1998 to restore this damaged ecosystem and protect its remarkable birdlife, particularly the vulnerable sarus crane. Tràm Chim holds international recognition as a Ramsar Wetland of Importance, designated in 2012, and serves as a critical habitat for several endangered species that have returned following decades of conservation effort.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
