Bundala National Park

Bundala National Park is a coastal wetland sanctuary located in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, approximately 245 kilometers southeast of Colombo. The park encompasses five shallow brackish lagoons and diverse habitat types including thorny shrublands, salt pans, mangroves, and unique sand dune forests. Established first as a wildlife sanctuary in 1969 and redesignated as a national park in 1993, Bundala holds exceptional international significance as a wintering ground for migratory water birds. The park harbors 197 bird species, with the spectacular greater flamingo being the highlight, as these elegant birds migrate in flocks exceeding 1,000 individuals from India's Rann of Kutch.
